Creating a Customer Portal Page in GreenKite  - November 25, 2007

Portal Pages are ideal for creating pages intended only for a certain audience (i.e., You want some site information to be accessible to only a certain client).

The key to this is using GreenKite's restricted pages feature.

First, create a GreenKite user account so your customer can log in with a username and password.

In GreenKite Explorer - we will create a new user called John Smith - for the the company XYZ Shipping.

  1. Under user type - we will define a type called XYZ.
  2. For landing page - we will specifiy a page name. This page is where the user is sent immediately after logging in. We will call this page 'xyz_portal' which we will create in our next step.

Next, we create a new page that will act as the landing page for the customer portal.
  1. In GreenKite Explorer simply create a page called xyz_portal
  2. In the page properties set the restricted value to yes
  3. In the canview groups property enter the usertype of the users that can view this page - in this case xyz
You can define any number of users and usertypes this way.  You could have 20 users in the system all with the usertype of xyz - and all of them will have access to this page.  If you want to create multiple user groups - you can have another company with a usertype of abc - and  then you can give both groups access to a page by setting the canview groups property to xyz,abc

(in page properties)

Advanced Tip:  In GreenKite professional or higher - you can define a directory structure and apply these security settings to a directory - and all pages within that directory will inherit the security settings.
